Lemonroyd sewage works

October 17th, 2008 by Steve Smith

Brno in the Czech Republic are about to undertake a complex sewer improvement scheme and a group of engineers and officials have been to Leeds to see how we do it here. They had a number of places to visit and one of them was our local works which is at the end of Fleet Lane in Oulton so I took the opportunity to have a look round with them yesterday and see how it’s done.

Lemonroyd serves about 30,000 people which is Rothwell (about 25,000) and a few more besides. It was interesting to meet our guests together with the Yorkshire Water workers who provide a vital service for us.

There were, as you might imagine, a few choice smells along the way but the final discharge was quite clear and is, I was assured, cleaner than the river water into which it’s discharged.

More later but, for anyone watching, I’m delighted to have just discovered that the developers have today announced that they are to withdraw their bid.
